Leading provider of Engineered Sealing and Structural Solutions for the Automotive Industry expands use of HyperWorks

Altair’s open architecture CAE suite improves structural part development processes at Tier 1 supplier L&L Products Europe SAS in France TROY, Mich., Feb. 5, 2009 – Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of technology and services that empower client innovation and decision-making, announced today that the French-based provider of engineered sealing and structural solutions for the automotive industry, L&L Products Europe SAS, has once again expanded their use of HyperWorks. The HyperWorks suite is used for acoustic analysis and structural part optimization with a strong focus on crash impact.

“After an intensive global benchmark of many different CAE solutions, we realized that HyperWorks would best suit our needs,” said Nicolas Hecker, Buyer L&L Products Europe SAS. “In addition, HyperWorks offered the best performance/cost ratio. We were looking for a tool which would provide us with solutions to all our requirements and also possess open architecture to allow us to implement other products in our development process, when needed. The flexible HyperWorks licensing system allows us to use and pay for only the tools we need and yet give us access to a broad range of software applications at no additional cost. No other software suite provides such flexibility.”

“From the technical side, we chose HyperWorks because it provides a very user-friendly pre and post-processor and a good interface to many different crash codes. Thanks to its open architecture, it is not only possible to work with the Altair solvers such as RADIOSS, but when needed, we can also use third-party solvers. This gives us the flexibility we need in our development process. In addition, HyperWorks offers the highly valuable optimization tool, OptiStruct, which we use to define optimal design for our products,” added Frank Braymand, CAE Manager, L&L Products Europe SAS.”

“We are very pleased to see L&L Products increase their use of HyperWorks,” said Mauro Guglielminotti, Managing Director, Altair Engineering, France. “Simulation and optimization are of ever growing importance in the automotive industry. Especially in the area of crash analysis, engineers need reliable simulation tools to keep testing and related costs at a minimum. The openness and unit-based licensing system of HyperWorks allows companies like L&L Products to thoroughly evaluate concepts and their permutations in order to develop products faster and save costs.”

As the most comprehensive, open-architecture CAE solution in the industry, HyperWorks includes best-in-class modeling, analysis, visualization and data management solutions for linear and non-linear structural optimization, fluid-structure interaction, and multi-body dynamics applications.

About L&L Products

L&L Products has lead the development of sealing and adhesive products for more than 40 years. Today, with its structural enhancing materials - Composite Body Solutions or CBS® - and acoustic solutions, L&L Products has again opened up new opportunities for the automotive industry. Since 1958, L&L Products has developed custom material solutions for the automotive industry. This chemistry backbone provides L&L with in-depth knowledge of chemical systems and their relation to vehicle performance.

L&L Products is the industry leader in the development of innovative, high performance sealing solutions. Their three-dimensional molded or extruded parts are installed in the body shop. Upon heating to the e-coat curing temperature, the material expands and closes the cavity and forms a barrier against water, dust and noise.

The structural product line is driven by innovative technology that responds to the challenges of the automotive industry. It enables improved handling and safety while reducing weight and cost. CBS is a macro-composite made of a metal or plastic carrier and high-density structural foam. CBS parts maintain cross section integrity by filling the cavity and adhering to the metal sheet. Since 1998, when the first application of CBS was put in production, millions of vehicles have been built utilizing CBS for safety, NVH applications, and fatigue life improvement.
